”Your Presence Is A Present”

I have often wrote about those who light up our world.

Is it their smile?

Their charm?

Their ability to focus on others?

Or is it their innate ability to make

everyone they meet feel wanted?

It’s probably a little of all the above,

don’t you think?

When my three daughters and granddaughter

went off to visit my grandchild who

was studying in London, I e-mailed them to say

they not only represented themselves in England,

but our country.

I find people tend to get an impression of large groups,

even nations, from the few they meet who represent them.

What would I hope they projected?

Now, I know you’ve heard me say this before,

but I so believe in people having kind manners,

attentive listening skills, honorable values, and being

thoughtful, that I repeat these human

treasures often.

It’s important no matter where you go, because  

“Your presence is a present” to everyone you know.

As you shop in the supermarket or enjoy

a festive family dinner, your shining light

is a gift to others.

Especially glowing traits that we share,

lift our personal world as well as the

larger one around us.

Each of us has the ability to wave that

magic human wand to share special moments.

You can bring the sunshine to others

by your attitude of wanting others to be happier;

yes, a well wisher can do that.

It can be your light-up-the world attitude,

a poem you send, a quote that defines the moment.

All these nuances twinkle a special magic in the human spirit.

Give the good word; it’s a wonderful gift to others and yourself.

No matter what news lives in our world, Hemingway

reminded us that [and I paraphrase]

it is through that little opening that “the light gets in.”   

We can be that light that brightens the day of

others and in so doing brighten the world at large.

As Dr. Margaret Meade noted,

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,

committed people can change the world:

indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

I agree with this renowned scholar; well meaning people like

you can do enormous good for everyone.
